Bangkok is the easiest place in Thailand to find a good massage, and the hardest to choose from. Traditional Thai massage shops, foot reflexology parlours, boutique day spas and luxury hotel spas sit within a few minutes of each other, often on the same soi. Prices span a huge range, from a simple one-hour foot massage in a neighbourhood shop to a half-day ritual at a five-star hotel. This guide helps you narrow it down: which areas suit which kind of visit, what a fair price looks like, how to behave, and how to get from the airport. Every listing below is physically located in Bangkok, and the neighbourhood pages let you go one step closer to where you are staying.

Traditional Thai massage, known as nuad thai, combines acupressure along energy lines, assisted stretching and gentle joint mobilisation, usually performed on a floor mat while you wear loose clothing. Its teaching is closely associated with Wat Pho, the temple in the old city, whose massage school is among the best known in the country, and UNESCO added nuad thai to its list of intangible cultural heritage in 2019. Alongside it you will find oil massage, which is slower and more relaxing, foot reflexology focused on pressure points in the soles, hot herbal compress massage, and deep tissue or sports-style work for tight shoulders and backs. Most shops offer all of these, so the choice is mainly about the pressure you prefer and how much time you have.
The widest choice in one place, from quick walk-in shops near the BTS stations to polished spas on the quieter sois. Convenient if you are staying in a mid-town hotel.
The business district, popular for after-work sessions and well served by both the BTS and MRT. Good for office-syndrome style neck and shoulder work.
A stylish residential and dining area with boutique spas and a calmer atmosphere than the main roads.
A relaxed neighbourhood of cafes and small independent spas, a good option if you want to avoid the busiest tourist streets.

Bangkok is served by two airports. Suvarnabhumi (BKK) is the main international gateway and Don Mueang (DMK) handles many regional and low-cost flights. A taxi or private transfer to central Bangkok usually takes anywhere from about 45 to 90 minutes depending on traffic, and the Airport Rail Link connects Suvarnabhumi to the city by train. Once you are in town, the BTS Skytrain and MRT metro are the fastest ways to reach most massage areas, avoiding the road traffic that can slow taxis in the afternoon and evening.
Airport transfers: BKK → SUKHUMVIT · DMK → SIAM
The cooler, drier months from roughly November to February are the most comfortable for sightseeing. March to May is very hot, which makes an air-conditioned massage a welcome break, and the rainy season brings afternoon downpours that are a good excuse to book an indoor treatment. Massage shops operate all year, so the weather mainly changes how you plan the rest of your day.
The grand royal complex and the temple of the reclining Buddha sit close together in the old city; Wat Pho is also the traditional home of Thai massage.
Take the river boats or an evening cruise to see the city from the water and reach riverside temples and markets.
One of the largest markets in the world, open at weekends. Plan a massage afterwards for tired feet.
A museum of traditional Thai architecture and silk, a calm stop near Siam.
A green escape in the middle of Silom, good for a morning walk before an afternoon massage.
Street food and old shophouses, best visited in the evening.

Typical ranges are about 250-600 baht for a one-hour foot massage and 300-700 baht for a one-hour traditional Thai massage in neighbourhood shops. Oil massages cost more, and hotel or luxury spa treatments start at around 1,500 baht. Check the venue menu for exact prices.
Sukhumvit has the widest choice and is convenient for most visitors. Silom and Sathorn suit business travellers, while Thong Lo, Ekkamai and Ari are quieter and more boutique. Use the neighbourhood pages to see shops in the area where you are staying.
Many shops accept walk-ins, but evenings and weekends are busy, so booking ahead is sensible for a specific time, a group, or a popular spa.
Wear comfortable clothing. Most shops provide loose cotton clothes, and oil massages use towels or disposable garments. Tell the staff if you would like more coverage.
Tipping is not mandatory. A tip of 50 to 100 baht handed to your therapist is a common way to show appreciation for good service.
Thai massage uses stretching and pressure on a floor mat while you stay clothed. Oil massage uses long flowing strokes with aromatic oil and is usually gentler and more relaxing. Many people try both during a trip.
